char! -gay lingo for "play time" or "joke only"
char! cupcakes galore was unofficially established in december 2007 when owner Charisse Bonifacio De Vera baked banana choco chip muffins as a christmas gift to her agents, friends and relatives. word spread and orders came pouring in for the infamous banana choco chip muffins -- now appropriately named "makasaysayan".
after a few weeks of non stop makasaysayan orders, one of her close friends, NoNo, requested for chocolate cupcakes topped with colorful icing to serve as the many birthday cakes for her son Andre. it was then that Cha decided on pursuing this as her "playtime" income from her 9-5 workload.
her husband Christopher ensured that the public knew about these muffins by delivering boxes full of makasaysayan in his office and since then has developed into the family's homebased cupcake and muffin by-order-only shop.
but what's up with the name?
on january 10, 2008, Cha sat down with a few friends and asked what name they think would suit her business. This is when her supah friend Eumir Vasquez blurted out "CHAR!" since he figured that it was Cha's playtime income and it suits the first four letters of the names of the owner + her two little girls.
